Where are we upto....

After a big New Year blast. I decided its time to update my blog. When I was wondering what to write Nithya suggested me to write about how Indian films are lagging behind when compared to world movies not only technically but also in story. Even I was wondering the same after attending the film festival last month. So I decided it’s a good topic to write down.

As I already told in my previous blog, the festival had movies from 42 different countries around the world. All these movies were representatives of each countries culture, heritage, lifestyle and what not. Coming to the standards of their movies, they have different stories to tell be it a kid trying to unite his divorced mom and dad or an elderly couple who is not financially strong to run the family after retirement. After the story comes treatment. They all had been very organized. Each and every shot and every frame convey some message and it’s so apt to the situation. A long shot or a close up or a mid shot is been kept for reason. You never find an unwanted scene or to be specific a unwanted shot. These movies are also shorter in duration, hardly one and half hour to two hours.

Indian movies you can see unwanted sequence, songs being attached just for the sake of having it and they leave the characters hanging in the middle. You can find the heroine of the movie coming on screen only for songs and so called romantic scenes. It’s typically the Hero who takes over the entire film fighting with a Villain.

World movies have equal importance to hero and heroine. No characters are introduced just for the sake of having them. Above all they don’t have any villain. The characters themselves are villains. Either they fight for a social cause or to protect themselves. Violence in Indian movies and action in world movies – It makes a very big difference.

We are lagging behind so much.. Still I can’t completely blame Indian directors or writers. They do come out with beautiful movies like Mozhi, Tarae zameen par etc.... I think its time to think of a big revolution and come out with many more movies. We have lot talents but not tapped in a right way. Hero’s should start accepting to work in different movies and we should really work in increasing the standard. I think its time we get Oscar.
